Changing your dial-up phone number

Windows XP

If you have a dialup icon on your desktop, it's really easy to change your dial-up number.  The next time you double-click on the icon, before you hit the Dial button (see picture at right), just change the number.  If your old number was 216-1000 or 208-216-1000, just change it to 882-8768.

If you don't have a dial-up icon on the desktop, go to the Start button and click on Control Panel.  (If you don't see Control Panel, click on Settings, then Control Panel).  (If there are only about ten icons listed, click on Switch to Classic View in the upper left.)

Double-click on the Network Connections icon.

Double-click on The Cactus TurboNet icon.  (Some people called this icon something else, such as "My Connection,  "Connection to 216-1000" or just "TurboNet".)  Change the phone number in the Dial box, then click the Dial button.  You must (this time only) dial from here so it will save the new phone number (It will ask you if you want to make the change permanent.  Say "Yes").  WHEN YOU'RE THROUGH, MAKE SURE YOUR COMPUTER IS NOT DIALING A "1"!!!

If calling Moscow or Pullman is not a local call for you, continue to use the existing phone number in your dial-up connection.  Only the Moscow/Pullman local calling dial-up number has changed!
