Adding Mailboxes

If more than one person will be using your computer to access the Internet and you have an E-mail box for each person, then you need to set up profiles in Netscape Communicator so that each person has easy access to their own E-mail.  To do this, follow the steps below:

Step 1

To find the Profile Manager in the menus follow the chain Start -> Programs -> Netscape Communicator -> Utilities -> Profile Manager.

When the first dialog appears, select the Next button.  The dialog to the right will appear.  Select the New button to create an new profile.

Step 2

In this example we are setting up a profile for a fictitious person named John Smith whose E-mail address is jsmth@turbonet.com.

Examples are given below for each screen in the order they appear.  After you complete each screen with your own information, click on the Next button and on the last screen click on the Finish button.

Then (for Netscape 4.7)

1. Go to the Tools menu and click Preferences
2. Click the "+" in front of "Mail & Newsgroup Settings" unless it's already a "-"
3. Click the Mail Servers item
4. On the right, in Outgoing mail server username, put your username (usually the first part of your email address)
5. Click OK

Or (for Netscape 7.1)

1. Go to the Edit menu and pick Mail & News Groups Account Settings. 
2. Near the bottom of the list on the left, choose Outgoing Server (SMTP). 
3. Check the box that says "Use name and password". 
4. Put your email user name in the box (not your email address). 
5. Click OK.  If you don't want to use authentication, make sure the check box is unchecked.
