WS_FTP Instructions

WS_FTP Pro can be downloaded from Ipswitch.com. I've found the free version at

Phone or email us to set up your webspace.  There's no charge for personal  webspace, but most people don't use it, so we don't set it up unless you ask.

Unless other arrangements were made, use your regular username and password for access.  At right is a connection screen example.  Use your own username and password, of course.

You will then get a screen like the one below (this picture has been truncated).  Move the Local System display to wherever you keep the original pages for your web site, or if you publish only pictures, move it to your picture folder.

Initially, the right-hand side will be empty.  Simply highlight the file you want to publish and click the -> arrow.  It will be copied across to your web site.

To find your file on the Internet, type in:

http://personal.palouse.net/<YourUsername>/<filename.ext..  For example, in the picture below, the file "amary2.jpg" can be seen at

http://personal.palouse.net/monica/amary2.jpg

Your default page should be named default.htm, or index.html.   That way, if a reader doesn't specify a page, they'll get that one.   For example, if the Web URL for your main page is

        http://personal.palouse.net/monica/default.htm

then people can also get to the same page using

        http://www.palouse.net/monica

as an address.  And shorter is better on the Web.
